On your bike: Making footage capture easy and affordable using pragmatic know-how and the ingenuity of our growers.

Farmers are known for their pragmatic know-how and the ingenuity of our growers is always surprising us. We try to make our systems as simple and accessible as possible for our customers but sometimes getting the right footage from a Gopro, with only what the farmer has on hand, can be a bit of a puzzle. But between the practical know how of the Farmers and the technical knowledge of our team, we have never found a any barrier that we could not work together to overcome and quickly.

“The ingenuity of our growers is always surprising us.”

At bitwise Agronomy some of our core commitments are to communication, creativity and to collaborative autonomy in a purposeful manner. These qualities are aimed at the mastery of our field with a pride of work. Ultimately the goal is to bring value to our customers. With these value’s we endeavour to create a friendly and professional relationship with our clients. Our daily ambition is to engage with our clients regularly to offer a consistent and timely resolution to inevitable barriers that often come about from the pioneering of a new field of discovery.

Some challenges our growers have overcome range from camera angles, for proper footage capture, to overcoming challenges set by nature herself on the farm. This is compounded by the time pressures of a seasonal growth that cannot be put on pause. If we hit technical challenges when developing our Neural Networks, we scarcely have the luxury of a self-set pace. Our mission is difficult, but it is also extremely rewarding. Fortunately, our dedicated team really believes in our mission and is dedicated to confronting and committing to the resolution of each challenge as it comes. This includes working with our growers.

When we started to pay serious mind to how we shall be capturing footage of the fields themselves we held a thinktank group session over the matter with the team. After much deliberation we concluded that it is in the client’s best interests to enable them to apply their pragmatic knowledge and know-how, as farmers, to overcome any unique obstacles that they may encounter.
Being familiar with their own farms and comfortable with ingenuity. Combining the sound technical counsel of our team, we work closely with customers until the footage is exactly right. The reward of that effort is actionable and valuable data at an extremely cost-effective price. We did this by taking a “ground roots” approach to footage capture. We reasoned that most farmers would have a motorcycle or quadbike on their property. Or at very least, a bicycle.

It seemed obvious that the most sensible choice was to enable the farmers themselves to capture the footage needed. With the assistance of our new partners at FOSHO, we guide the growers to the ideal footage. Often this is a growing experience (Excuse the pun) for all involved as the complexities of Machine Learning mean that each time a new net is developed, we are frequently confronted with some new nuance of the AI architecture that will force us to re-strategize. This being said, we are yet to meet a challenge we have not been able to overcome.
